Improving the Reliability of the pumps through root cause analysis and quality pump rebuilding can contribute to significant cost reductions. Significant cost reductions can be achieved by:

• Improving pump life – less frequent repairs and all of its attendant costs



• Energy Savings – very substantial energy savings can be realized by identifying pumps that are not operating at their BEP and offering hydraulic modifications to improve the pump’s efficiency in its current operating environment.



• Just in Time Parts – Hydro South will help to analyze inventory and work with the plant to utilize excess inventory in its repairs. Once inventory is at recommended levels, a just in time program can be implemented to free up capital for more productive uses.



• Parts Refurbishment – Hydro South will recommend refurbishing rather than replacing a part when it makes good engineering and economic sense.

Too often, cost reduction initiatives focus on reducing the “first cost” – that is the cost of the repair itself – when the really significant cost savings can be realized in other areas. The initial higher cost of implementing a reliability focused repair solution is more than offset by the continuing benefits of reduced maintenance costs, extended equipment life, reduced energy costs, and improved production.
